Hotel El Ganzo

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

Funky. Artsy. We're pretty sure it's unlike any place you've ever stayed.

Vibe

Like we said, in a word: funky. And cool. And artsy. And just. Plain. Different. This Cabo boutique is filled with energy - both visual and audio - as it sits apart from the mega-resorts that Cabo is known for. Just a 20 minute ride from the airport, Hotel El Ganzo is a must if you're looking for a quick, unique getaway.

The main attraction of the hotel is, well, the hotel. They invite different artists a few times a year to display their work on the walls and halls of the hotel. No, not in a frame, but literally right on the walls. There are huge murals. There are small discoveries. All with a beautiful white backdrop with blue skies and plenty of sun to accompany them.

When you drive up, you quickly see that the hotel stands alone and while not remote, allows for plenty of quiet and privacy. And walking through the giant wood doors, you're greeting by a colorful lobby - and what are those doors in the floor? Oh, nothing. Just an underground recording studio/private concert space.

We spent our days lounging in and around the rooftop pool, complete with swim up bar and excellent service. Sometimes we were the only ones out there! It was very laid back with music playing the background as we watched the sailboats come in and out of the dock.

Hotel El Ganzo has really tried to work with what they have when it comes to a beach experience. When we went, you took a VERY short boat ride across the lagoon to their beach property. The service was good, but the location doesn't lend itself to the full beach experience. And that's okay - the hotel has a lot to offer that other hotels in the area can't.

Accommodations

Mrs. Jones and I opted for a Beachfront and Ocean View room (the standard) although you have many options to choose from all the way up to a Two Bedroom Suite. It was quaint and had everything we needed with a nice outdoor seating area and view of the bay. There was a generous sized tub and a clean, bright bathroom as well.

Fare and Glass

To be honest, there are so many great places to eat around the hotel, we only had dinner there once. Speaking of great places around the hotel, holy moly, Acre was incredible. From the grandiose entryway to the amazing bar, the entire experience was something we'll never forget.

First off, the bar. Just close your eyes and point and you can't go wrong. Beautiful. Imaginative. And full of local flavors, every cocktail we had (don't worry, we took a cab) was a delight.

And then, dinner. There is a complete smorgasbord (that's right, smorgasbord) of food that's grown right there on the property. Again, you just can't go wrong. There's enough variety to go back every night and have a different experience. Just. Amazing.

Verdict

The Hotel El Ganzo is worth your time and worth the trip. While it may be off the beaten path, it stands out as an alternative to the oversized, loud mega-resorts Cabo has to offer. Consider it an artsy oasis to call home base as you venture out to explore, or a nice place to just sit and sip your favorite drink. It's a dazzling experience for the eyes (read: VERY Instagram friendly) and will linger in your memory for years to come.
